Saving a Project

Note

Coming in Spatial Integration version 3: the close confirmation listing layers with unsaved edits and dialogs with unapplied work.

The project file (.si) stores everything about how your data is presented: the layers and where their data comes from, symbology, visibility, bookmarks, clip objects, information panels, flythroughs, the sun angle and the view. Your data files themselves are not copied into the project; they stay where they are and are read from there. See Project.

Both save commands are in the Project flyout on the left-hand side of the window.

Save

Click Save to write your changes to the current project file.

Note

Saving the project does not save edits you have made to the data inside a layer, such as features drawn or moved with the Edit tool. Those are written to the layer's own file with the Save button on the layer's row in the flyout, or from the confirmation shown when you close.

Save As

Click Save As... to save the project under a new name or in a new folder. Choose the location and file name in the file dialog. A copy of the project is written there, with your current changes, and Spatial Integration carries on working with the new copy. The original project file is left as it was when you last saved it.

Use Save As to keep a version of a project before making large changes, or to start a new project based on an existing one.

Save As copies only the project file, not your data. The new project still reads its data from the original locations. To gather the project and its data together, for example to send to someone else, use Package instead.

A project that is open in another copy of Spatial Integration cannot be overwritten. You are told who has it open, and nothing is written.

Closing with unsaved changes

If you close the project, open another one or exit Spatial Integration with unsaved work, a confirmation dialog lists what would be lost:

  • Layers with unsaved data edits. Save each one with its save button, or all of them with Save All Layers.
  • Dialogs holding work that has not been applied. Click Cancel to go back and save it from that dialog.
  • Project changes. Click Save Project to save them.

Save All saves the layers and the project in one go. Close Without Save discards the unsaved work and closes. Cancel (or Cancel Exit) goes back without closing.
