Tools

Tools are the things you use while looking at the scene, rather than things that load or manage data. They let you interrogate what you are seeing, control how much of it is drawn, and move around it.

Most tools are toggled from the tool flyout menu along the right edge of the window, or from the buttons at the right hand end of the status bar. Each tool also has a keyboard shortcut, so you can switch it on without moving the mouse away from what you are looking at.

Status Bar Tool Buttons

  • Information (i): Point at anything in the scene to see its details, and pin permanent callouts.
  • Bookmarks: Save a view and return to it later with a single key press.
  • Clip Objects: Restrict what is drawn so you can see into a crowded scene.
  • Measure (m): Report the true 3D distance and orientation between two picked points.
  • Legend (l): Show what the colours and symbols in your scene mean.
  • Graticule (g): Draw a labelled reference grid through the scene.
  • Perspective & Orthographic Views: Switch between the two camera modes.
